If you’re anything like us – you absolutely hate having to clean your house. That’s why we scour the market every year, to see if there’s a new choice for the best robot vacuum cleaner – they just make life so much easier.
While it definitely felt like we were living in the future at first, we’re now very used to our little Roomba running around – we even nicknamed ours “Alan”. Soon, we will likely be able to have robots clean the entirety of our homes – not just the floors.
Of course, there are thousands of lackluster robot vacuums on the market. So to solve this problem, we aggregated millions of actual customer reviews, tested the top models, and can now easily tell you just what the best robot vacuum on the market is.
Our Top Pick
iRobot Roomba i7+
We’ll cut right to the chase – the Roomba i7+ is not cheap. However, it does offer the most features, as well as the best performance – out of any robot vacuum we tested.
It can learn the maps of each room in your house, it empties its own trash, and it will even respond to voice commands. While it’s not a budget pick, it will provide you with the best overall functions, and we highly recommend it. Easily our top pick.
Other Great Picks
Shark IQ Robot
Another great robot vacuum, the IQ from Shark is sleek, functions very well, and is more affordable than many other premium models. It cleans very well, and stood up well throughout all of our testing.
With thousands of five-star customer reviews, it’s also beloved by many consumers. While the Roomba may be the original, the IQ is another great way to clean your floors with little-to-no human involvement. A great choice.
Goovi Robot Vacuum
With thousands of great reviews, and a killer price point – this robot vacuum from Goovi is yet another great pick. With similar performance to the Roomba, it even has a great feature that automatically has the robot return to the charging dock when it starts to get low on power.
It can handle any surface, as well as human hair and pet hair – so we have very few complaints. While you can spend more and get a Roomba (or some extra features), for most people – this is a perfect model to purchase. Highly recommended.
Ecovacs Deebot 500 Robot Vacuum Cleaner
The Deebot comes in at a great price point, but still offers premium performance. We were impressed with the suction on this model, as well as the nearly 2 hour battery life.
Since Roombas generally cost much more than this, the Deebot is a great budget pick. And with thousands of great customer reviews, you can confidently invest in this robot vacuum without any worry.
Coredy Robot Vacuum Cleaner
This is another great budget pick, and we were pleasantly surprised at just how well it performed. Sucking up pet hair, moving from carpet to hard floor – this robot never missed a beat.
It also has thousands of five-star customer reviews, and has a battery life of 2 hours before it needs a charge. Ultimately, if saving money and having a clean home are your two main goals – this is an excellent pick. Definitely recommended.
Roborock E4 Robot Vacuum Cleaner
The Roborock is another great contender when it comes to the best robot vacuum cleaner. Backed by thousands of great customer reviews, and offering a lower price point than most Roomba models, the Roborock has become quite popular among consumers.
We liked the 3 hour battery life, as well as how well it got up our dog’s hair off the floor (and trust us, there was a lot of it). If you want a cheaper alternative to a Roomba, a Roborock is another solid option.
Eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 11S Max
The BoostIQ RoboVac is a little internet famous. Why? Because it offers great performance, at a very affordable price. If you want a Roomba alternative that costs less – this is one model to take a look at.
It held up very well during all of our testing, and we think any homeowner would be happy with this choice. Since it’s backed by thousands of glowing customer reviews – clearly we’re not the only ones who feel the love for this machine. Another stellar pick.
Tesvor Robot Vacuum Cleaner
We loved controlling this robot vacuum with our voice, and we think you’ll be amazed at how well it cleans all your floors. Since the low price tag would have you believe this model may be lacking in features – that could not be further from the truth.
Every cleaning function we wanted is found here – and then some. With thousands of glowing customer reviews, we’re far from alone in this opinion. Another great choice, if you want a great vacuum – for a little less money.
iLife V5s Pro
If you want to save the most money – this is the robot vacuum for you. It is very affordable, yet this vacuum doesn’t cut any corners when it comes to how well it cleans your home.
It even has a mopping mode, which we were absolutely blown away by. You can spend far more, sure – but if you want a budget pick that still gets the job done with style – get this robot vacuum. Our biggest money saver choice.
iRobot Roomba s9+
Don’t mind spending a little extra, and want a Roomba – plus a robot mop? This is undoubtedly the choice for you.
With tons of great customer reviews, a stellar company track record, and excellent performance during our testing – this Roomba combo not only met our high expectations – it far exceeded them. Of course, with a high price tag, we recommend paying with credit – or being very sure you’re completely invested in transferring all over your cleaning tasks over to the robot vacuum king – henceforth known as Roomba.
Dyson 360 Eye Robot Vacuum
Dyson is famous for their premium home cleaning products. This robot vacuum is pretty much the Rolls Royce of home cleaning appliances – so of course we highly recommend it.
However, there are a few caveats. Firstly, it’s definitely not cheap. However, it does have every feature you could want – and the suction is twice as good as every other model we tested. If you don’t mind paying more – this is definitely the best robot vacuum you can get.
What Is A Robot Vacuum?
Robot vacuums are an awesome step forward. They make the annoying and time-consuming task of dragging a heavy vacuum around your whole house – a thing of the past.
These little machines will automatically pick up dirt and debris from all of your floor – all on their own. You can do something else – work, work out, cook dinner, take a nap – and when you’re done, all of your floors will be completely spotless.
Battery powered, most robot vacuums will run for two to three hours, before they need a charge. The top tier models will even empty their own trash, as well as mop the floor for you.
Which Robot Vacuum Is The Best?
If you’re looking for the best performance, and money is no object – it’s pretty hard to beat the Dyson 360 Eye, or the Roomba s9+. These machines are almost like living in the future, and we were pretty amazed that they were even available for consumers.
However, the rest of our list has great options for those who are a little more budget-minded. The iLife V5s Pro is our favorite budget pick, as it costs just a fraction of a Roomba, yet still offers comparable cleaning performance.
Are Robot Vacuums Worth It?
Since robot vacuums are a huge step up from the alternative (pushing a heavy vacuum cleaner across the entirety of your house’s floor) – we think everyone should own one. If budget is a concern, there are plenty of options that cost hardly anything, and will still get your house super clean in no time.
Is Roborock Better Than Roomba?
Roomba was the first popular robot vacuum, and still remains a top choice for many. The Roborock is a similar robot vacuum, but is often found for cheaper prices.
Either one will be a good choice, as both machines fared very well during our extensive testing. Roborock lacks the ‘brand name’ appeal of the Roomba – but it does just as well as the Roomba, when it comes to cleaning your house efficiently.
Which Is Better – Shark IQ Robot Or Roomba?
The Shark IQ and the Roomba are two of the best robot vacuums out there. However, the higher-end Roombas do offer slightly better performance than the cheaper Shark IQ.
For most people, we think saving the extra money is more of a priority than a slight uptick in performance. Unless money is no object, we think the Shark IQ is a slightly better buy for the average person, though we love Roomba just as much as everyone else does.
How Long Do Robot Vacuums Last?
While there is no definitive answer to this question, the average lifespan of a robot vacuum seems to be about five years. We think that this lifespan will only increase, as the technology gets even better.
What Is The Best Inexpensive Robot Vacuum?
If getting the least expensive option is your top priority, we recommend the iLife V5s Pro. It has every basic feature you’d want, all while coming in at a fraction of the price.
Will A Robot Vacuum Fall Down The Stairs?
While this is possible, and a barrier is the safest option – in our testing, almost every model could sense a drop, and would safely turn around. While we can’t absolutely guarantee it, this should be the case with your robot vacuum as well – though we still recommend putting up a tiny barrier, to avoid the staircase altogether.
Can A Robot Replace A Normal Vacuum?
Yes, a robot vacuum can replace your normal vacuum cleaner – in fact, we can never see ourselves going back to the old way. Pushing around a vacuum cleaner that is heavy and cumbersome, just seems like an unnecessary step backwards, given how far technology has progressed.
How Often Should I Run My Robot Vacuum?
We recommend running a robot vacuum in your home at least once a week. This should keep your floors looking spotless, and won’t be much of a hindrance.
Some people like to run their vacuums every day, but unless you live in a particularly messy house, this seems like overkill to us. Twice a week should be more than enough, for most people.
Do Roombas Actually Clean?
Yes, in our testing, Roombas do an excellent job of cleaning your floors. The more expensive models, as you might imagine, do an even better job.
While it’s not a Roomba, the top of the line Dyson model we tested, got our floors the cleanest out of any product we tried. However, since the price tag is significantly higher for this machine, most people will probably want to choose a more affordable option.
Do Robot Vacuums Work On Carpet?
Many (but not all) robot vacuums work on both hard floors and carpet. However, be sure to check the model you are intending to purchase, if this is a requirement, as not every model will handle every type of floor.
Are Robot Vacuums Loud?
Robot vacuums are definitely not louder than traditional vacuums. However, they’re also not super quiet (unless you have a specific model that advertises quietness as a feature).
We got used to the noise fairly quickly, so it really wasn’t much of a concern when making a purchasing decision. Since having a robot clean your floors, instead of having to do it by hand, is a huge improvement – we’d even be okay with robot vacuums that actually were noisier, just because of how much easier these little guys make our life.
How Do I Choose A Robot Vacuum?
Choosing a robot vacuum is actually fairly easy. First, decide on your budget – do you want to spend as little as possible, or opt for a deluxe model?
This will significantly narrow your choices, which makes the buying process much easier. Once you’ve decided on price range, you should ask yourself what exactly the robot vacuum will be cleaning.
If it’s just hard floors, you may want a model that only does that type of cleaning. If you want it to clean a multi-level house, with carpet and different surfaces, that will ultimately end up being a different type of purchase.
Once you have this narrowed down, the next question becomes manufacturer preference. Some people care if their cleaning device is made by a certain company, while others do not.
After this is decided, you likely have already narrowed down your choices to just one to two options on our list. From here, choosing the right model should be easy – look at the customer reviews, make sure the vacuum can do everything you need it to, and take the plunge.
